Cycling for a Cure

Our good friends Annie (Lowe) & Scott Green's son Nate was recently diagnosed with SMARD (Spinal Muscular Atrophy with Respiratory Distress Type 1). It is life-threatening disease that is caused by a gene mutation. It also causes weak muscles and severe respiratory problems. Nate is bright and happy, but has no use of his legs which makes it very difficult to explore the world.

Nate needs a power wheelchair and wheelchair accessible van to help him leave the house. To help we organized a 40 mile bike ride to raise funds for Nate and SMARD research. The generosity and support from friends, neighbors, and complete strangers was overwhelming!

Nate is so cute! I feel sorry that he had to suffer SMARD. I’ll also pray for his recovery! Anyway, I hope Nate will overcome this life-threatening disease and be able to live a normal life. By the way, what happened to the fundraising event?

Even with SMARD, your kid is still very adorable! As long as there’s smile on Nate’s face, you have nothing to worry about. I hope the event was a success!
